Banding Together!

City of Tauranga Pipe Band is a Grade 3 band of up to 30 playing members – pipers, side drummers, tenor drummers and bass.

All of our playing members live in the wider Tauranga area and in addition to our competition commitments we play at local parades and events, particularly Anzac Day and the local Christmas parade. Band members range in age from 12 years to 60+.

Our Pipe Major is Warren Aitken who played for Grade 1 championship bands for many years and is keen to develop the playing and performance skills of local pipers and to foster a strong band culture among members. Our Drum Sergeant is Philip Lewis who has been involved with the band for many years and has also played with bands at top competition level – many of his pupils have gone on to play in Grade 1 bands.

The band offers free piping and drumming tuition to learners to ensure the future of the band remains strong.

Our Key People

	Pipe Major Warren Aitken Warren has been Pipe Major of City of Tauranga Pipe Band since 2010 - his second time in the role after a period playing for Auckland & District. He began his piping career in Christchurch and has many years of experience playing in New Zealand’s top Grade 1 pipe bands, including ‘09 and ‘10 New Zealand G1 Champions, Auckland & District.
	Pipe Sergeant Andrew Graham Andrew joined City of Tauranga Pipe Band in 2011 when he moved to the Bay from Palmerston North where he played for Manawatu.Aside from his skills as understudy to the Pipe Major Andrew is known for his penchant for donuts!
	Drum Sergeant Philip Lewis Philip has been a City of Tauranga Pipe Band stalwart for many years. He has a long history of playing in top grade bands and one of his passions is teaching young drummers. Many of his proteges have gone on to play in Grade 1 bands and have credited his tutoring for setting them on the path to success. His love of drumming is only surpassed by his love of sweets.
